How can I contact a librarian for research or general assistance?
In addition to coming to a campus library to ask for assistance at a reference desk, “Ask A Librarian” is available so that you may interact with a librarian online, submit reference questions via a web form or email, or telephone with general inquiries.
How do I get a library card to check out items from the UF Libraries or to use for gaining access to library electronic resources when connecting from home, etc.?
UF students, faculty, and staff use the Gator 1 identification card as their library card for checking out materials. To activate your card for checkout use, present it at any library circulation desk.   If you are not affiliated with UF, you may be able to get a courtesy borrower’s card to borrow books. See “Borrower Status” links on the Loan Policies page for more information   Visitors who plan to use a computer may sign up for a free guest computer account at the Circulation Desk.  These must be renewed every 14 days.
What hours are the UF Libraries open?
The UF Libraries have a “regular” schedule when classes are in session, and “special” schedules during intersessions and holidays. See current Library Hours.

Does the library offer any special services for users having disabilities?

Does the library have any journal articles online?
The UF Libraries subscribe to many electronic journals and article databases. Note: While most E-Journals and article services are available to anyone from UF Libraries’ workstations, license agreements limit access from outside the libraries to current UF students, faculty, and staff.
Is the UF Libraries’ Catalog available online?
The UF Libraries’ Catalog is available to anyone via the Web.
Where can I return books?
Library materials may be returned at any UF library location. Exceptions: interlibrary loans, reserves, videos, and items from the Map & Imagery and Mead Libraries. A drive-up bookdrop is available at Library West. Books returned after the library closes are checked in the next day using the previous day’s date so that undeserved fines are not charged. You can also see locations of bookdrops at the Health Science Center Libraries.
Is it possible to renew books online without bringing them to the library?
Most books may be renewed on the Web using the Online Renewal Service. Some items may not be able to be renewed, so watch carefully for messages when attempting to renew items. As a courtesy, email messages are normally sent informing borrowers of upcoming due dates.
How do I copy and print in the library?
Each library offers black and white copying/printing. Color copiers/printers are available at Marston Science Library, Architecture & Fine Arts Library and Health Science Center Library. Black and white printouts/copies cost $.10 per page, and color printouts/copies cost $.50 per page. You pay for printing by swiping your Gator1 card at the copier/printer to access your Gator vending account. For how long may library books and other materials be borrowed?
Smathers Libraries* — Most circulating materials are charged out to undergraduate students and courtesy borrowers for 3 weeks, UF graduate students and UF staff for 8 weeks, and longer to UF faculty. Some items (e.g., special loan materials within the active collection, reserve items, video recordings) do not circulate or circulate for shorter periods.
